Blue Planet Mountain

Here’s a production photo from the show Blue Planet on the Allure of the Seas. Please click image for larger view.

The mountain unit contains three trampolines used for the acrobatic nature of the scene. This unit also traverses upstage-downstage on the stage’s built-in winch tracks. One unique aspect of the fabrication process was that the initial foam sculpture was done by CNC routing. A 3D scan was made of the designer’s scale model and we added voids where we would be fitting in our wagon units. The CNC routing saved us an enormous amount of sculpting time by creating the basic shape and allowing us to concentrate on the rock detailing itself. The finished sculpture was then fiberglassed for durability.

Thank You Rose Brand!

In the September 2008 issue of Lighting & Sound America there is an in-depth article by David Barbour about the production shows installed on Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. The article is focused on the design challenge that Hariton/Baral Design faced with fitting four production shows in the ship’s main theatre, and details the process and end result of the overall project. Unfortunately, the article is not posted online at this time. The magazine’s website is here.

The Speed Art Museum – Art Sparks Interactive Gallery

We recently completed this interactive exhibit for the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, KY. Items from the museum’s Yoruba collection were used to develop the exhibit. Activities for participants include making a variety of paper rubbings with Yoruba motifs and decorating a costume for an Egungun ritual.
